A Chapter A Day: Day 6 Reviewing book two in the Keys of Candor Series, Sea of Souls, by Casey Eanes and Seth Ervin
Hello everyone! I am happy to be back after an unexpected 2-day weekend break. I hope that I didn't make you wait too long to review chapter 6. Lets end the waiting and get reading!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A hop, skip and a jump later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This chapter started with a bang! Or 4 to be more specific. Referring to humans as disposable is a mix of despicable and exhilarating. Seams villainous appeal has been majorly upped in this chapter. He is hardly comparable to the man who had trouble killing his assassin.
What I have to say next has to be said.
As much as I would like to refer to the authors as my friends and overlook things, I do have to keep true to my promise of an honest review. I found an error...
Page 77, "His rubbed at his wrist..."
This is the second page of the chapter and isn't as easily read over as "The Kull's hair". It does slightly effect the seriousness of what just happened in The Mine.
I personally like to interpret that as a result of how excited the authors were to write this chapter.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, almost every book has an error or type-o of some sort even though we strive for perfection.
Lets not linger there...
We met a new assassin! It appears that in Candor being an assassin is a pretty good job.
The new mystery man's name is Cyric. I am going to start with the results of a quick google search of his name. If you value your eyes I DO NOT recommend looking at The Urban Dictionary descriptions. Some DnD nerds got on there and um.. left their mark.
Speaking of DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) that was the other most frequent result. Cyric is a deity in the fictional Forgotten Realms campaign setting, a branch of the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game. Cyric is known by many titles, including: the Prince of Lies, the Dark Sun, the Black Sun, the Mad God, and the Lord of Three Crowns. I also found a ton of things talking about how the DnD Cryic was self centered, powerful and more.
So his name has certainly given my a few expectations though I am sure that whatever happens will just serve to better compliment the story.
His character has appeal. He is described as mysterious, attractive, witty and dangerous which is always certain to pull in admirers.
His objective now is to capture Wael and bring him to Seam. Normally I would say that Wael could handle it and that I wasn't concerned but in a previous chapter he was described as having a limp. This does worry me but it excites me even more, that fight will be legendary.
In this chapter there was an intriguing interaction between the Serubs and Seam. I also think that this was the first time that we have gotten to see them with a more humanoid way of acting.
They expressed feelings. Arakiel, as always, expressed anger. It is no secret that he dislikes Seam. Abtren expressed concern for Arakiel after Seam sapped his energy. Nyx expressed fear of Isphet, Apparently he never shared his energy gaining secrets.
Nyx was also shown flirting, or I guess poorly seducing, Seam.
Note: He turned her down.
I don't really think that this new way of acting is vitally important but I do think it was neat.
There was a wide variety of interesting words in todays chapter but my favorite was Sable. Apparently it is a color that was named because of an animal called the sable whose fur is not only pleasing color wise but is also nice to touch and is frequently compared to or mistaken for Mink fur. Fascinating!
We learned the name of the last Serub. Bastion.
Allow me to be a polite nerd who will stray back into the literary realm of todays youth. Aki Likey.
Seriously though, with this name they have broken another stereotype! Usually the male to female ratio is pretty solid with them being even but this book checked another stereotype off the list! We have a ratio of 4-2 in favor of males! Has anyone complained about that yet? No, and they probably wont. Why? Because the female protagonists in this book are also not the stereotypical females. They have had absolutely zero boy trouble so far and they have proven themselves extremely capable in all other aspects.
It evens out.
One last bullet point and then I will leave you with a quote.
Hosp committed a no-no. This honestly wasn't that big of a shocker, we all knew he would do something stupid. If it gets him killed in a horrible way, or perhaps excused, then I am fine with this.
I wish you all the best, good luck with your Tuesdays! Stay strong :3
Here is your quote: "I was raised up to believe it was not wise to interfere with the affairs of monks." He pulled down the scarf covering his face, revealing a grin. "But for a million credits I can bend." ~Cryic The Assassin (Keys of Candor-Sea of Soul- Seth Ervin and Casey Eanes)
That was the quote that sold me on Cyric. Good or bad I am on his team.
